Chris Brown is putting one part of his legal battle over an alleged nightclub fight behind him, as he seems to have settled with the guy who sued him over it. Abe Diaw sued Chris Brown back in 2023, claiming the singer struck him with a tequila bottle during an appearance at TAPE nightclub in London, but on Friday, Abe filed docs asking an L.A. County judge to dismiss the suit. According to the documents, Diaw wants it dismissed with prejudice, meaning he can’t file it again, and that typically indicates a settlement between the parties. We don’t know if there was any money exchanged; we’ve reached out to attorneys for Chris and Abe.
Chris Brown Lawsuit Updates
In the suit, Diaw had claimed Chris not only struck him 3 times with the bottle of Don Julio 1942, but while he was unconscious on the floor, Brown continued to “ruthlessly stomp” on him, leaving him with some lasting injuries. Assuming the judge signs off on the dismissal, Chris Brown will still have to deal with his criminal case for the incident. He was arrested earlier this year shortly after landing in the UK for his world tour. Prosecutors have charged CB with assault and possession of a weapon. He was eventually released on bail and appeared in court 10 days ago to enter a not-guilty plea.
However, Brown did make a statement following his release on bail in May 2025 (in connection with the same incident for which the lawsuit was filed).
Chris Brown implied: From The Cage To The Stage!
Following his arrest related to the incident, HipHopDX reports that Brown referenced his arrest during a show in Manchester, saying: “I just want to tell you all, I love you all to death, I am so thankful that I could come out here tonight. Thank you all for having me and supporting me and thank you to the jail, y’all was really nice.”
Although the dismissal with prejudice indicates a settlement in the Civil lawsuit, there is no specific quote from Chris Brown confirming or commenting on the settlement terms.
If Diaw was truly left unconscious and badly injured as he claimed, getting smacked with a Don Julio bottle and then being stomped out, why would he want to back out of it and not see it through? He also claimed to have video evidence with an airtight story. Oh well, just something to think about.
