The summer seems to be getting even hotter as Drake’s “Nokia” still sizzles on the charts. With his highly successful collaborative album with fellow Canadian rapper/musician PartyNextDoor, entitled Some Sexy Songs 4 U, Drake has continued to enhance his ever-expanding winning streak.
Drake Creates a Nostalgic Vibe
Further exploring an experimental sound, “Nokia’s” vibe is reminiscent of late 80s, early 90s, and early 2000s hip hop. It’s a memorable sample of that trademark Nokia ringtone effortlessly adds to the nostalgia. Written by Drake and produced by Elkan, the song was released on February 14, 2025, and became a massive radio hit on March 11. With its hypnotic trap beat, synth-flavored melody, and Elkan’s eclectic vocals, this jam continues to be a staple on almost every playlist.
Shot in IMAX, the song’s accompanying video was filmed in black in white, generating total cinematic nostalgia. The Theo Skudra-directed video features imagery that is assumed to poke fun at Drake’s ongoing feud with fellow hitmaker Kendrick Lamar. “Nokia” peaked at number five on the Canadian Hot 100 and number two on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 19, 2025. Additionally, it peaked within the top ten of the charts in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. Some Sexy Songs 4 U opened with its first week debuting at number one on the Billboard 200, marking PartyNextDoor’s first chart-topping album and Drake’s fourteenth.
