5 Waterfront Camping Destinations to Cool Off This Summer
Summer camping trips can be fun, whether you’re a family of six or a couple looking for a getaway. This year is proving to be a hot one, you might be looking for a waterfront view and cooler breezes. We have a list of perfect spots for you!
Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park: Kauai, Hawaii
If you’re lucky enough to live in the beautiful island state of Hawaii, or are planning a visit, camping can bring you closer to the land. For a beach camp, the Miloli’i campground is your adventure. You’ll have to get there by boat, and camping permits must be applied for in advance. If this is your dream destination, make sure to plan everything out ahead of your trip.
Camp Fimfo, Texas Hill Country
This is a spot for camping (or glamping) that offers sites for tents, RVs, and on-site cabins. If your idea of roughing it includes water play, they have a pool, water slides, and an interactive water playground for the little ones. The resort also features spas, golf, ziplines, access to the Guadalupe River, and a dog park. That’s just a sampling of the amenities available.
Lake Havasu State Park, Lake Havasu, Arizona
Book this popular site well in advance! It’s popular for waterside RV and tent camping. There are cabins too. You can rent canoes or kayaks for a water adventure on the Colorado River. You can also go fishing or swimming, hiking, and more. Plus, it’s only about a 5-minute drive to Lake Havasu.
Kalaloch Campground, Olympic National Park, Washington
The Kalaloch and South Beach campgrounds give you views of the Pacific Ocean, and South Beach has direct beach access. For both campgrounds, make sure to reserve your site as early as possible because both are incredibly popular. If you prefer a cabin or room, check out Kalaloch Lodge. The national park is ideal for hiking. Bring your binoculars to watch the Western gulls, bald eagles, and other birds that make the coast their home. And walk the beach to view colorful seastars and anemones, but don’t touch! They need to stay in the water.
JW Wells State Park, Michigan
Of course, the Great Lakes have plenty of campgrounds to visit. So we had to include one. The Park has a modern campground, rustic cabins and campsites, and a lodge. There’s a beach for swimming, trails for hiking, a picnic area, and a lovely view of Lake Michigan. Bring your kids and dog and have some fun exploring nature along the lake.
Hit the Road!
Wherever you spend your time outdoors, remember to always take out what you brought in. Leave the land as you found it (or better) and respect plants and wildlife. It’s tempting to take souvenirs away, but there’s a cycle to the natural world, and it’s better to take only photos and memories. Have a happy and safe summer!
