5 David Corenswet Roles that Prepared Him for Superman

David will be a perfect Superman as he has the all-American good looks, a great build, and his appearance is similar to beloved Christopher Reeve. Corenswet is also 6’4” – so he’s one of the tallest actors to play the part since the 1990s. David Corenswet also has proven acting abilities – he has played anything from politicians to police officers, to even a morally conflicted character in the movie Pearl. Let’s look at five of his previous roles, which show his diversity of talent.

1. Moe & Jerryweather (2014)

This TV series, created by David Corenswet and Adam Langdon (who met at Juilliard), was a collection of short episodes that involved irreverent skits. It was about two young men who would poke fun at nearly every aspect of society. The role of Jerryweather showed that Corenswet has some comedic chops.

2. Hollywood (TV miniseries, 2020)

A look back into the golden age of Hollywood, this film follows several actors and writers trying to make it big. David Corenswet plays the role of Jack Castello. Castello is an actor trying to get movie work. The character gets swept up in supporting his family through prostitution. This role of David Corenswet showcases his ability to mix both drive and vulnerability.

3. We Own This City (TV miniseries, 2022)

Set in 2015 Baltimore, the gritty docuseries chronicles Baltimore police sergeant Wayne Jenkins, aptly played by Jon Bernthal, who headed the elite Gun Trace Task Force. This follows the GTTF and its rise and fall around the time of the Freddie Gray riots. David Corenswet plays special investigator David McDougall in this film. Fun fact: many of the same actors in acclaimed television series The Wire were also in this series.

4. Look Both Ways (2022)

In this Lili Reinhart-led romcom, we have a glimpse into two different life paths. In the same style as Gwyneth Paltrow‘s 1998 movie, Sliding Doors, two different lives play out for our central character, Natalie. In one possible life, Natalie hangs out with friend Gabe and gets pregnant, and raises a daughter. In the alternate life, she follows her career dreams and goes to California, where she meets Jake, portrayed by David Corenswet. Here we see David play a romantic lead with ease.

5. Pearl (2022)

2022 was a busy year for David Corenswet. He had several different projects, all with very disparate roles. In this horror movie, which is part of the X series, we find David playing the projectionist, opposite Mia Goth, who is also the writer and producer. David has a tough role to tackle – he must play a flawed character who takes a liking to a murderous psychopath. The film is set in 1918, with Goth playing Pearl, who descends into homicidal madness.

To Wrap Up

Other roles that should be mentioned are River Barkley in The Politician and Allan Durst in  Lady in the Lake. Compelling characters who earn sympathy from the audience will always be remembered. David Corenswet’s ability to play roles that are romantic, conflicted, vulnerable, driven, and ultimately heroic (some even with a little humor sprinkled in) illustrates he is certainly more than capable of playing our hero, Clark Kent/Superman.
