If you enjoy Japanese animated shows, anime live-action adaptations might be your thing, too. They’re essentially popular anime media brought to life through real-life performances and special effects. And they are often reformatted into a full-length movie or another episodic series. These live-action adaptations have become common across various viewing platforms. The best part is that they usually receive the same praise as their animated counterparts.

Would you like to learn about five anime live-action adaptations available on Netflix now? If so, stick around, and you might see something interesting to you. Just don’t get upset if something you know of isn’t on this list. And remember that this isn’t a ranking, meaning their placements do not matter.

5. “Avatar: The Last Airbender” (2024 – )

“Avatar: The Last Airbender,” of course, is a live-action remake of the Nickelodeon cartoon. Just like the original, the first season showcases Aang’s journey to the Northern Water Tribe. The only hitch is the exiled Fire Nation prince, Zuko, who continuously pursues him. Fans of the cartoon praised the show for its faithfulness despite its rushed tone. Yet the consensus is that this reboot series surpasses the 2010 film.

4. “One Piece” (2023 – )

To every fan’s joy, the live-action “One Piece” succeeds in capturing the original anime’s spirit. It retells the story of Monkey D. Luffy, a teenage boy with rubber-based powers. He assembles a crew of misfits, dreaming of becoming King of the Pirates. Anyone can easily see that real love and work went into creating this live-action remake. And it paid off since a second season is premiering in March 2026.

3. “Alice in Borderland” (2020 – )

“Alice in Borderland” tells of a group of friends trapped in an abandoned alternate Tokyo. They compete and win in a game of survival themed around different card suits. Or else they end up being executed by their captor. This live-action remake follows the manga more than the animated version. Regardless, its suspenseful plot and top-tier cinematography can compel anyone to love it.

2. “Cowboy Bebop” (2021)

Just like the original show, “Cowboy Bebop” follows a misfit team of space-dwelling bounty hunters. The leader, Spike, on the side, also deals with an old rival from his past. It sadly could not replicate its source’s success, concluding after a single season. Many critiques were of the show’s writing, pacing, action sequences, and special effects. However, people praised its choice of actors, like John Cho, who portrayed Spike.

1. “Fate: The Winx Saga” (2021 – 2022)

“Fate: The Winx Saga” reimagines the story established in the animated show, “The Winx Club.” A group of fairies attends a school in a hidden magical realm. They must learn to wield their unique elemental powers while battling evil monsters. Despite starting with decent viewer numbers, the show ended after Season 2. The good news is that any interested individuals can experience the series in one shot.

Thoughts on These Anime Live-Action Adaptations

Despite any critique thrown at them, these five anime live-action adaptations from Netflix look amazing. It’s evident that love and work went into replicating the originals, especially with “One Piece.” And any changes from the show creators help with adding some uniqueness to them.

I’m honestly open to studios recreating popular Japanese animation into live-action versions. It helps give new life to something that everyone should witness at least once. My only requirement is that they are executed correctly and don’t overwrite the original’s spirit. And I’m sure I’m not the only person here with that same mindset. Regardless, go check out these anime live-action shows from Netflix now.
