Christmas movies traditionally showcase themes of kindness, generosity, love, joy, compassion, and family. You know, things any person would typically associate with the season of giving. But would it surprise you to know that these films can sometimes become action flicks?

In this article, we’ll dive into five of these non-traditional Christmas movies. You possibly might recognize some of these titles and agree with their inclusion. Or you’ve never seen any of them and question why they’d be here at all. If that’s the case, hopefully this Top Five list will pique your interest.

5. “Jingle All the Way”

First up is “Jingle All the Way,” a late 1990s film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger plays a workaholic dad who ends up gravely disappointing his son. To make things right, he promises to get his boy the coveted Turbo Man toy. The only problem is that the errand turns into a grueling competition against other parents. This movie is PG and features plenty of slapstick comedy, making it ideal for families.

4. “The Tower”

A South Korean flick from 2012, “The Tower,” mixes “Die Hard” with “The Towering Inferno.” Lee Dae-ho, manager of a luxury building complex, must hold a Christmas Eve party. Things get into full swing when two crash and set the building ablaze. Dae-ho must now work with a firefighting team to rescue the trapped tenants. Many consider “The Tower” a thrilling experience, especially those who adore the disaster genre.

3. “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang”

Up next is a 2000s film starring Robert Downey Jr., Val Kilmer, and Michelle Monaghan. “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang” features Kilmer and Downey as a unique crime-fighting duo. The pair must work together to solve a murder case related to Monaghan’s character. This movie takes place during Christmas and holds many subtle themes related to the holiday. However, it is rated R, so it’s best not to watch it without children.

2. “Home Alone”

Starring Macaulay Culkin, “Home Alone” is a Christmas classic many enjoy to this day. Young Kevin McCallister finds himself accidentally left behind when his family leaves for vacation. He learns to fend for himself as he takes a break from his exhausting relatives. Complications arise when two robbers repeatedly attempt to break into his home. Like “Jingle All the Way,” “Home Alone” is an action flick with slapstick humor.

1. “Die Hard”

You’re at the wrong party, pal, if you didn’t see this entry coming. “Die Hard” stars the phenomenal Bruce Willis as a New York City police officer. He joins his estranged wife, played by Bonnie Bedelia, for a company Christmas party. Things suddenly go awry when terrorists led by Alan Rickman take everyone hostage. It’s a thrilling classic, and many consider it one of the best Christmas movies ever.

Final Thoughts Regarding These Christmas Movies

These action-filled Christmas movies undoubtedly deserve to be enjoyed during the holidays. “Jingle All the Way” and “Home Alone” are ideal features for families with kids. While “The Tower” and “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang” bring some spice to the season. Still, we cannot deny that “Die Hard” is the king of action Christmas movies.
