Are you looking for a Christmas movie to watch this Holiday season? Maybe you and your bestie have a tradition of scratching off lotto tickets and need a movie to watch on Christmas Eve? Or if you’re not watching the NFL or NBA and are sick of watching the same old Home Alones and Elf. I have three movies you and your family could check out that are somewhat under the radar. These aren’t necessarily new movies but movies that usually aren’t mentioned with the greatest “Christmas” movies but they happen around the holidays and could be a nice break from the norm.
Underrated Holiday Movies
Just Friends (2005) Hulu, Disney+
Bro, be real. Who doesn’t love a holiday Rom-Com? If you said “No,” you’re lying! Just Friends is not only a great holiday movie but also a great comedy in general. Who doesn’t enjoy the redemption story of a high school fat***, leaving Jersey to go to Cali, only to return to Jersey as a successful heartthrob? Add a possible love rectangle with an obsessive, horny teenage younger brother. What do you have? Just Friends in a nutshell. I can quote this movie damn near line for line, so if your names are Clark and Darla or you have a kid named TJ, give this movie its flowers.
The Night Before (2015) Hulu, Philo, Prime
Who hasn’t had a night out with their friends that gets derailed by drugs, alcohol, a sticky bandit, Miley Cyrus, and a crucifixion? The Night Before is the “holiday Superbad” is one of the best comedy Christmas movies. Everyone had their version of Mr. Green in High School, some weird old guy you would buy drugs off of, maybe ask to get you alcohol. Sh** my group of friends called him “boxhumper.” But that’s a different story!
8-Bit Christmas (2021) Max, Hulu, Prime
Man, don’t you sometimes wish you could relive a time before this insane technology when the coolest thing in the world was jumping on turtles’ heads as a plumber trying to save the Princess? 8-Bit Christmas was a surprisingly good back-in-the-day movie that gave a good look into what kids would get into before parents tracked their every movement. Kids can hear the story of how their millennial parents handled things when they were their age. It’s a great Christmas movie and well worth the watch!
Honorable Mention
Before I get to my Honorable Mention, I just want to explain myself. If you love “very bad but they’re good” B-roll sci-fi movies to the point of watching a marathon of Sci-fi Channel shark movies while in Vegas renting a Cabana? Then this movie is for you! What would you do if you saw a shark fin with a holiday hat on? Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you……
Santa Jaws (2018) Tubi, Sling, Pluto
Thats Right! Santa F****** Jaws!!! What would you do if you saw a shark with a Santa hat that attacks anyone who dares celebrate Christmas with decorations? I freaking love these types of ridiculous movies. Between the “great” acting and dialogue and the ridiculous storylines, how can anyone not find it at least entertaining? Just blaze up and enjoy! “Trust me, it gets better!”
Final Thoughts
Check out these four movies if you’re not into sports and don’t want to watch the same five movies each TV station runs. There is something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a date night movie night with a friend or even a movie to take a nap to. Go get some hot chocolate, pour some Rumplemintz in it, and call it a Merry Kwanza, Happy Chanuka, Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays!
I know for a fact you started singing ‘NSYNC!
