Beer binge and DIY crafts can and should go together. Perhaps not like that one roommate I had, who randomly pasted 8 cut can bottoms on a chunk of expanded polystyrene, announced it was going to be a masterpiece, left it there for months, yelled when asked about it, and still never finished it (people, hu?), but hey, not every failed attempt has to be an excuse to stop experimenting and taking recycling as seriously as it gets, right?
Crafting With Beer Cans
Because it’s fun, because it can be useful, and because it counteracts on your personal waste production flow. In this article we will explore some ideas that will directly improve your life while also making you a nicer human in the eyes of mother nature. We went and found the most creative, aesthetic, and original recycling tutorials, and we will take the time to run you through it.
The Art Deco
If you are naturally drawn to aesthetically pleasing beer cans (or pretty cans in general), this tutorial found you and not the other way around. The idea is to spot interesting patterns that you can cut out, either following the original design or making your own shape. Please, note that this trick does take some time and that it includes the use of extra ingredients to make it work, mainly frames, extra paper, and, at least here, the predilection of precision cutters over the standard kitchen knife.
Crack A Beer, Plant More Trees
And you can do it on your own, from the comfort of your living room, cause who said that a small cactus doesn’t count?
The idea here is to simply wash, cut, and convert. Once your can has been modified, it is just a matter of finding some soil and planting your next green companion. Now, how you cut the can will determine the kind of plant you can select: a simple, clean, upper cut is ideal for cacti, as the water needed is minimal, therefore you won’t need to worry about leaking. Cutting in the middle and inserting the upper part into the bottom part will result in an additional safety level for your extra water, a greater variety in terms of plants, and just a slightly smaller vase as a final result.
Becoming Responsible With Your Vices Makes You Cooler
This is why our third suggestion is a big classic: beer can ashtray.
In its basic version, this is the simplest craft you could come up with (and some don’t even bother cutting, let’s be honest). But, even though pretty isn’t an obligation, why toss the option aside? Beer cans can be turned into beautiful flower-shaped tiny plates that can serve multiple purposes.
The instructions are still very simple, it just takes a tad bit of patience at the time of intertwining. First, you need to cut off the upper part of your can. Then, you create filaments of 1cm by cutting down vertically and leaving the filaments attached. Once your base is ready, you can proceed to create your flower, and we highly recommend checking the video tutorial to get yourself going.
