3 Awesome Things in the Tron: Ares Teaser Trailer

Tron: Ares

The teaser trailer for Tron: Ares, the third chapter in Disney’s Tron saga, just dropped. Released in 1982, the first Tron movie wowed audiences with its early use of computer-generated effects and its intriguing story about a man getting sucked into a digital world called the Grid. In 2010, the sequel, Tron: Legacy, expanded on the world by creating a new Grid and utilizing modern visual effects. Now, fifteen years later, we finally get to travel back to the Grid as Tron: Ares comes to theaters this October. The teaser trailer just dropped, and it looks like there is a lot to anticipate. Here are three exciting things from the Tron: Ares teaser trailer.

1. Tron: Ares features Worlds Colliding

The trailer opens by showing the iconic light cycles from the Grid racing down a city street, and one of them slices a police car in half. In both Tron and Tron: Legacy, the physical world and the digital world were treated as two completely separate realms that shouldn’t meet. In fact, the plot of Tron: Legacy involved trying to stop the corrupted program Clu from escaping to the physical world. Now, however, the Grid and the physical world will meet, which will undoubtedly cause entertaining chaos for audiences to savor.

2. The Visuals

Both Tron and Tron: Legacy featured dazzling visual effects, and it looks like Tron: Ares will be continuing that tradition. The trailer gives the audience a contrast of light and dark with the bright neon lights of a giant recognizer floating against the black of night. We also get some glimpses of the Grid itself, with its neon orange lights glowing everywhere in the sunless digital world. When the first Tron movie was released, it showed audiences a world they had never seen before, and while today’s audiences are used to digital effects, it still looks like Tron: Ares will be a treat to look at, especially on the big screen.

3. Kevin Flynn is Back!

At the end of Tron: Legacy, Kevin Flynn, the protagonist of the first Tron movie, (SPOILER) seemed to die, sacrificing himself so his son could escape the Grid. Flynn was “de-rezed,” with his body breaking up into millions of digital pieces. However, there seemed to be a bit of hope when it was revealed that Sam, Flynn’s son, had saved his information disc. Now, that hope has been realized. Near the end of the trailer, we see Flynn’s body being re-formed and his eyes opening. Audiences are undoubtedly looking forward to seeing Flynn again.

Final Thoughts

Disney’s sequels tend to make money, but Tron: Ares looks like it will be more than just a cash grab. The Grid has always had room for further expansion, and the concept of the physical and digital worlds colliding has plenty of storytelling potential. The visuals look like they will be dazzling, and the return of Kevin Flynn promises that Jeff Bridges will make him as entertaining as he was in the first two movies. Even though Disney has been churning out many sequels and remakes in recent years, Tron: Ares promises to be something special.
