Kevin Feige has been doing many interviews lately to talk about the future of the MCU. There are many fantastic projects coming up, starting with Deadpool & Wolverine next weekend. The MCU has taken some heat in the past year as the content has been met with mixed reactions. However, they are scaling back and focusing on quality over quality. In a recent interview, Feige revealed that a series for a fan-favorite character is in the works. Nova, and more specifically Richard Rider, is in development.

Kevin Feige Reveals Nova Series Is In The Works

The Nova Corps have been well-established in the MCU as they played a huge role in the Guardians of the Galaxy. However, we have yet to see any iteration of the hero Nova. In an interview with ComicBook’s Brandon Davis, Kevin Feige said, “It’s happening, it’s coming together. Richard Rider, yep,” in reference to a series. He did reveal that it is still three to four years out, but the fact that it is in development should excite fans.

Since the 2014 release of Guardians of the Galaxy, fans have wondered whether Rider would appear in later films. James Gunn never wanted to put the hero into his trilogy and revealed his reason why in a 2022 interview.

“Yeah, I never had Richard Rider in anything. He’s just too big of a character and he seemed too… I didn’t want to… From the beginning, when I came on board Guardians, I didn’t want to have two human beings. I wanted to have one human being so that he could be surrounded in this world of aliens. And then we realized little by little, that all of these characters are the only of their kind, they’re the only human being to them, you know?”

Powers And Abilities

Nova is one of the most powerful heroes in the Marvel Universe. He is able to channel the Nova Force, which increases his strength to incalculable levels. It allows him to go toe-to-toe with some of the most powerful beings in the universe. In the comics, he battles with the Silver Surfer and the supervillain Annihilus. Channel the power also gives him increased speed, stamina, agility, and healing factor. He isn’t without his weaknesses.

The pure amount of power he can draw puts him under mental strain. Too much power could drive him insane. In addition to that, he can experience molecular instability if he spends too much time drawing on the powers of the corps. The MCU always has its own wrinkles to the characters. They draw inspiration from the comics but are not slaves to it. Feige is excited about the series, and many fans will likely be as well.
