In 2024, many hit TV shows were returning for new seasons or brand-new originals hitting streaming platforms, which has made this year’s award season very competitive. With the 76th Emmy Awards ceremony concluded, everyone wants to know who took home the win. Here is everything you need to know about the Emmy Awards winners.

The Bear

Outstanding Directing for Christopher Storer, fourth Emmy Awards win; he won Emmy’s last year for his work on The Bear as well. Ebon Moss Bachrack won Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Show and made this nomination his second consecutive in this category. Jeremy Allen White’s second win and nomination for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Best lead actress in a comedy Liza Colón-Zayas, the first Latina Emmy winner for best supporting actress in a comedy series, stated during her acceptance speech, “All the Latinas who are looking at me: Keep believing and vote. Vote for your rights.”

Baby Reindeer

Richard Gadd had an amazing night for Baby Reindeer, which won multiple awards, including Best Lead Actor, Best Writing for an Anthology series, and Best Supporting Actress in an Anthology or limited-time series; Jessica Gunning, which was her very first win and nomination; and, lastly, Baby Reindeer won the Outstanding Limited or Anthology series. The series won four Emmy Awards, a massive takeaway for the team’s career and legacy.

Shogun

Shogun is one of the most decorated TV series within only one season because of how many awards they had won at the Emmys. These awards included: Best Actress in a Drama Series, first Emmy win and nomination for Anna Sawai in Shogun, Outstanding Drama Series, and Best Director for a Drama Series. Shogun’s first Emmy win and nomination for Fredrick E.O. Toye, Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Hiroyuki Sanada. Shogun had 24 nominations, with four total Emmy Awards.

Many other shows and people stood out at the Emmys, with some of them winning very prestigious awards. Best Writing for a Comedy Series went to the show Hacks, which also garnered a win for Gene Smart, who won Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in the same show. Smart also gave a hilarious speech after accepting her award, making it apparent she earned it. Hacks accrued 48 nominations. They awarded Greg Berlanti the Governor’s Award for leadership and representation in the LGBTQ+ community. The legendary actress Jodie Foster won her first-ever award for Best Actress in an Anthology or Limited Series for her work in True Detective: Night Country.

Best Writing for a Drama Series went to Will Smith, who has five nominations and three Emmy wins for his series Slow Horses. The Outstanding Talk Series Award went to The Daily Show, which has received four nominations this year. Steven Zaillian wins the Best Director award for an anthology series or movie for his work on Ripley. Alex Eldeman won the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Special award. This was his first win and nomination; he gave heartfelt special thanks to his friend, who passed away right before they took the show to Broadway.

Outstanding Scripted Variety Series has returned to Last Week Tonight with John Oliver; the talk show has had six nominations this year and 66 overall career nominations. The best-supporting actor in a limited anthology series went to Lmorne Morris for his performance at Fargo. Drama series Best Supporting Actor: Billy Crudup’s second nomination and win for the Morning Show. Elizabeth Dabicki won Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series for The Crown, which was her second Emmy Award nomination. Lastly, Outstanding Reality Competition winner The Traitors had five nominations total, four of which were from this year.

Final Thoughts

2024 brought audiences hundreds of amazing television shows. However, The Bear, Baby Reindeer, and Shogun have come out on top regarding awards. The Emmys celebrated many other studios and performers like John Oliver, Jodie Foster, and Gene Smart.
