16 and Pregnant superstar Sean Garinger died in February 2024 at 20 years old. Garinger was on Season 6 of the show with his ex, Selena Gutierrez. They had two daughters, 3-year-old Dareli and 19-month-old Esmi. Garinger’s mother reported his death. He was driving his all-terrain vehicle (ATV) when the ground gave way from mud and rain, flipping his ATV and pinning him underneath. He died on the spot before help arrived.

Now that about 5 months have passed since Garinger’s death, an official cause of death has been revealed. Garinger died due to blunt force injury to the head. The Raleigh, N.C., Medical Examiner’s Office offered details through its report. It stated that his skull was fractured in multiple places after his accident, leading to his death.
Sean Garinger and his mother just got home from the car dealership before his ATV incident. They wanted to buy a car so that Garginer could drive to see his girls in Fountain, Colo., where Gutierrez lives. Unfortunately, they never made it back to the dealership. Prior to his death, Sean Garinger was getting his life back on track. He was back in school and pursued a welding career, according to a family inside source. He wanted to finish school. Garinger was not active on social media before he died. His Instagram account was deactivated.
Garinger Mom Gets Involved
Mary Hobbs, Garinger’s mother, was the one to report his death. She was there when the incident took place in Boone, N.C. Sean Garinger was moving the ATV from one parking spot to the next for his mother so she could back into the spot. Hobbs desperately went to her neighbors for help to get the ATV off of her son. But that didn’t work. By then, she was certain that Garinger was no longer alive. His family marked the accident site as hallowed ground with flowers and signs that read “We Love You Squishy” since the accident. Squishy was Garinger’s nickname.
A mother witnessing her son’s death is an incredibly hard thing to do. It’s especially the case when being so helpless and no control over what’s happening. Garinger’s mother recounted the incident and her feelings about it:
“I just laid next to him until the ambulance showed up,” she said. “There was a huge part of my heart that died with my son on Wednesday. He was my only son, my rock, my strength when I had none left.”

Gutierrez said that their kids were too young to grasp what happened to their dad. She expressed her gratitude that the children were able to spend time with their father weeks before he died. In addition, the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office stated that their hearts are heavy for the Gardiner family and loved ones. The fire department, medics, and police went to the crime scene. By then, though, it was too late. A service for Gardiner was held on March 2.
