There’s nothing worse than finding a show you love and having it canceled just as fast. While it happens a lot on Netflix, Hulu is also very guilty of canceling shows before they have the chance to really find success. While it’s so exciting to find a new show, it’s scary to think that it could be canceled just as fast. Although Hulu doesn’t cancel shows as fast as Netflix does, will you be willing to take the chance on a new Hulu show?

The Great

The Great showed an alternate-universe side to the Russian Empire that starred Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult as Catherine the Great and Emperor Peter III. The show, while having a good following, was eventually canceled after its third season, leaving fans hanging. The reason for the cancellation wasn’t explicitly stated, but there have been speculations of poor performance, as well as the SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Kindred

Kindred was based on a novel by Octavia Butler. It followed Dana, who was able to time-travel back to 1800s Maryland. When she time-travels, she is forced to face the racism that America was inundated with during that time, and has to see the reality of it. Unfortunately, Hulu made the decision to cancel the show after one season. While they didn’t give an exact reason why, the show wasn’t given the chance to really thrive.

High Fidelity

High Fidelity was a remake of the movie of the same name. The show starred Zoe Kravitz and had a very promising start. Unfortunately, despite the excellent reviews and all of the love that Zoe Kravitz received, the show only had one season before it was canceled completely. Sometimes, remakes simply shouldn’t be remade, which was the case for High Fidelity.

Death and Other Details

Death and Other Details was the ultimate murder mystery show. Taking place on a cruise ship, a murder is committed, and a woman must prove her innocence with the help of a detective on board. It felt like this show never really got a chance before Hulu made the decision to cancel it. The show had a devoted fan base, but it was still canceled due to poor ratings and some mixed reviews.

Reboot

Reboot, starring Keegan Michael Key, was a comedy that poked fun at other reboots and remakes. It followed Keegan as he and his co-stars tried to reboot a show within a show. While it was loved by fans and given really good reviews, the show was ultimately canceled without much of an explanation, like many of the other shows on this list.

How I Met Your Father

How I Met Your Mother was such an iconic show that was beloved by many fans. When it was announced that there would be a spin-off for Hulu called How I Met Your Father, fans were certainly excited. The show had a similar pretense, as a mother is retelling the story of how she met her son’s father. Unfortunately, the show was canceled after two seasons, and fans never found out who the father was, leaving them hanging.

Love, Victor

Love, Victor, was a beloved spin-off of another Hulu show that was well-loved, Love, Simon. Despite the show getting a lot of love from fans, it was ultimately canceled after three seasons because the writers felt they couldn’t take the story further after Victor left high school. Fans still wanted more from the story and Victor’s journey, but writers didn’t see it that way, ultimately ending the show despite fan protests.

The Other Black Girl

The Other Black Girl was an adaptation of a book by Zakiya Dalila Harris of the same name. While the show did have plenty of fans who wanted to follow the secrets and lies they wove together throughout the show, it was ultimately canceled. While the show did come to a “conclusion” that followed the book, it still left fans wanting more and to further the story, but unfortunately, that will never happen now, thanks to Hulu’s decision.

This Fool

This Fool followed Julio Lopez and his cousin Luis as they worked together at “Hugs Not Thugs,” a rehabilitation program for gang members. While the show was hilarious, it also touched upon important topics that sparked conversations. While it was a show loved by fans, it was ultimately placed on the chopping block by Hulu and canceled after only two seasons on the streaming platform.

Castle Rock

Everyone loves a good horror series, and it looked like Castle Rock was going to be one of them. The show, based on Stephen King’s stories, was a horror anthology series much like American Horror Story. The show went on for two seasons before it was canceled by Hulu, despite the great reviews the show was getting. Hulu felt like the two seasons were good enough and didn’t want to produce any more seasons with two good ones already behind them.

While Hulu doesn’t cancel as many shows as Netflix does, sometimes the streaming service does jump the gun a bit with the quick cancellations, leaving fans begging for more seasons of their favorite shows.
