5 BookTok Books We Love That Are Getting A Live-Action Adaptation

Booktok books getting live-action adaptations

Thanks to the recent rise of book lovers on social media, specifically the community formed on TikTok, affectionately known as BookTok, reading has seen a considerable resurgence. With the love of books on the rise in a world full of streaming movies and television shows, it only makes sense that books get their own live-action adaptations. There are quite a few productions of our favorite books. So, which books can we look forward to seeing on the big screen?

What is BookTok?

Reading has always been a beloved form of media consumption. However, recently, social media has significantly contributed to its resurgence. Social media sites such as Instagram and TikTok are two online forums that have made a difference—they’ve made reading cool again.

So, what exactly is BookTok? To put it simply, it’s a corner of TikTok that is specifically for readers. Users who belong to this community share book recommendations with one another, review books that they’re reading, and have detailed discussions about them. It’s become a whole subculture that causes certain books to go viral (booktok) as more and more users want to read them. As a result, the book becomes popular, and some have become so popular that they’re being made into movies and TV shows.

Here are a few of the many on-screen adaptations we can look forward to from some of our favorite books that have gone viral on TikTok and turned to booktok.

Fourth Wing

Fan-favorite romantasy (romance and fantasy) series Fourth Wing has not only become a bestseller but has taken social media by storm, thus becoming a booktok. The series by Rebecca Yarros already has three books published in the series — Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and Onyx Storm — with two more in the works to complete the series.

According to Marie Claire, Prime Video announced that it had acquired the rights to the entire book series, and the streaming service planned to develop a TV series for its streaming service. Outlier Society, the production company belonging to Michael B. Jordan, will produce the Prime Video series.

There aren’t any casting choices or plans set in stone for the series, as it’s still being developed. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a little bit longer.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Another fan-favorite book that will be made into a movie is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The book follows the story of a 1950s old Hollywood actress as she retells her life story to journalist Monique Grant to write her biography. She talks about her seven marriages and what it was like having to hide a same-sex relationship during that time period.

According to US Weekly, Netflix acquired the rights to the beloved BookTok book back in March 2022. Since then, casting and production have been quiet, with a lot of details being withheld from fans. However, we do know that a lot is going on behind the scenes as the film is being prepared for production. One thing’s for sure: Fans love to speculate over who’s going to bring their favorite characters to life.

The Off Campus Series

The Off Campus Series by Elle Kennedy is yet another beloved BookTok series that has taken the internet by storm. The series focuses on a group of college hockey players, their tight-knit friendships, and their quest to find love, even when it’s not always expected. There are five books in the series, with each book following a different member of Briar University’s hockey team.

According to SwoonAmazon Prime picked up the Off Campus series with the intention of making a TV series for Prime Video. The first season will be based on the first book in the Off Campus series, The Deal, which focuses on Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells. As of right now, things are still in production, and there isn’t any information on casting or when they plan to start filming just yet.

People We Meet On Vacation

Author Emily Henry, who has written some of our favorite novels, is about to have her book People We Meet On Vacation turned into a movie, all thanks to Netflix. The beloved novel follows Poppy and Alex as they have been friends for what seems like forever. Each summer, they go on vacation together. Things change quickly as they spend time together on one of their summer vacations, and they start to question whether or not they could be perfect for each other romantically.

According to Tudum, the movie is already filming with Tom Blyth cast as Alex and Emily Bader as Poppy. While they are currently filming, there’s no set date for the movie to be released, just that we can expect it sometime in 2025, and we cannot wait! This is the reason why it is trending as a booktok on Tiktok.

Verity

Although Colleen Hoover has had some recent controversy with her last book, It Ends With Us, which was made into a movie, she has another one that will also be made into a movie. This time around, it’s Verity. This novel is a romantic thriller that follows writer Lowen Ashleigh as she helps Verity Crawford finish writing her popular book series after an accident takes away her ability to do so. Lowen moves in with Verity and her husband, Jeremy, where she finds secrets that Verity has kept hidden from her husband.

According to E! News, this movie is expected to be star-studded as Anne Hathaway is playing Verity, Dakota Johnson is playing Lowen, and Josh Hartnett is playing Jeremy. The movie is currently filming and has fans abuzz with excitement as we see pictures and videos from the set. This book is the closest out of all of these BookTok books to make it to the big screen, as the official release date for the movie has been set for May 15, 2026.

Thanks to BookTok, we can expect our TV shows and movies to be more exciting in the upcoming months with all of these releases. While we love books, it’s even more exciting to see these amazing stories come to life and play out on the big screen. Which live-action production are you looking forward to?
