Kim Kardashian Visits Menendez Brothers And Others In Prison

Kim Kardashian visited the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, California, on Saturday. She went to speak about prison reform with many of her acquaintances and family. Amongst the attendees were Eric and Lyle Menendez, creating a crossover of people we never thought we would see. It’s good to see that Kim K is using her legal apprenticeship on her journey to becoming a lawyer for such a worthy cause.

Kim Kardashian Visits Prison With Awkward Guest

Kardashian visited a correctional facility in San Diego to talk with 40 inmates, including the Menendez Brothers, about prison reform. She backs a lot of projects and speaks with the inmates about them. While at the facility, she was talking about a greenspace reform strategy that would beautify prison yards at the San Diego prison. Fascinatingly, Lyle Menendez is the leader of the Greenspace project, with Erik Menendez being heavily involved as well. Both brothers reportedly attended the talk.

Kim K was accompanied by her mother, Kris Jenner, as well as her sister, Chloe Kardashian. Film producer Scott Budnik also attended. Last, but not least, Cooper Koch, who played Erik Menendez in the new Netflix series ‘Monsters’ came too. A very odd guest, indeed.

Erik Menendez has recently blasted the ‘Monsters’ series that Cooper Koch played him in. Probably not the first person the younger of the Menendez brothers would have chosen to see. He directly calls out the director of the series, Ryan Murphy, who happens to be a friend of Kardashian’s, which also feels like another awkward crossover.

The younger Menendez brother was quoted as saying, ” I believed we had moved beyond the lies and ruinous character portrayals of Lyle, creating a caricature of Lyle rooted in horrible and blatant lies rampant in the show. I can only believe they were done so on purpose. It is with a heavy heart that I say, I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be this naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives so as to do this without bad intent. It is sad for me to know that Netflix’s dishonest portrayal of the tragedies surrounding our crime have taken the painful truths several steps backward — back through time to an era when the prosecution built a narrative on a belief system that males were not sexually abused, and that males experienced rape trauma differently than women.”

Cooper Koch is the living embodiment of the exploitation of the brothers’ story via a Netflix show. Koch played out Erik Menendez in a depiction of the story that takes significant liberties with the overcall case. However, Koch is also just a young actor who did the best he could within the constraints of the script and likely was not particularly familiar with the ins and outs of a case that largely played out before he was born. It’s unclear if Cooper Koch is invested in prison reform.

Kardashian’s Other Ties To The Menendez Brothers

Kim Kardashian appears to have an interest in the series, as she spoke with Chloë Sevigny about her role as Kitty Menendez. Sevigny mentioned that she struggled to play an interpretation of the Menendez matriarch, which may not reflect the late woman’s actual truth. That may be a blessing in disguise for Sevigny considering actual court testimony about Mrs. Menendez.

Kardashian also speaks to her experience with the brothers case. She grew up down the street from the infamous home the Menendez family lived in. Everyone knew about the case and was talking about it in school. Her father drove Kim Kardashian past the house and told her everything. He had been inside the home. Mr. Kardashian also had worked with Shapiro before, and so he may have gotten some information as Robert Shapiro represented the Menendez brothers before the lady lawyers stepped in.

Conclusion

Kim Kardashian is putting her law aspirations to good use and letting the law legacy of her family live on through her. Her father, Robert Kardashian, was a very skilled lawyer who helped represent clients like O.J. Simpson. It’s an amazing thing that she is supporting projects that are helping with prison reform. The timing of this visit, along with the guests she chose to bring, feels less than coincidental and possibly problematic. However, there are more eyes on this case and prison reform than ever before, so hopefully she can help bring out positives in what feels like a lot of negatives from a series like ‘Monsters.’
